Serious About Sustainability

When you enter an established market such as sportswear, having a superior product is a prerequisite. The team at Hard Yards is well aware of this. In fact, their entire business strategy is to inject technology, research, and design into a category normally treated as perfunctory.

At Verdn, we believe this principle holds true along a different dimension as well: in a world mired by environmental challenges, those who choose to introduce new products carry a responsibility to ensure that they are more sustainable than existing alternatives.

A few months ago, Harry and James from Hard Yards came to us at Verdn to explore a partnership. I was ecstatic — after chatting to them it was clear to me that we were fully aligned in our approaches. Hard Yards wanted to be a premium, sustainable brand. Verdn, was created to facilitate exactly that.

Planting trees with every product.

With every product sold, Hard Yards pledges to plant trees.

The trees planted are mangroves, known for their effective absorption of CO2, and their pivotal role in maintaining healthy coastal ecosystems. The trees are planted in either Madagascar, Kenya or Mozambique, and provide crucial income to local communities that are employed to plant and protect the trees in areas that were previously deforested.

To make these pledges effortlessly, Hard Yards uses software provided by Verdn.

Additionally, Verdn allows each customer of Hard Yards to track their own trees, after they buy their products. They can do so on unique dashboards, generated by Verdn, and updated over time by our tree planting partners.

About Verdn

Verdn launched soon after meeting Hard Yards for the first time — in September 2020. Since then, we’ve helped brands plant over 150,000 trees, and recovered over 100,000 kg of ocean-bound plastic. Verdn is expanding to new types of impact, including coral planting, clean water, and more.

We could not be more excited to work with a progressive brand like Hard Yards.

Better for the planet, better for you.

3 Key steps to reduce our footprint on a planet we love

Even as a small team of 4, we’re conscious that our brand could become another contributor to landfills, deforestation, and carbon emissions.

We’ve taken 3 essential steps to ensure we leave our planet in a better way than we found it, without compromising on our commitment to bringing you incredible sports accessories.

1

We’re committed to supporting local craftsmen and women and in doing so, we can minimise the carbon mileage of all our products.

2

We’re committed to partnering with ethically responsible factories where we frequently scrutinise the materials we create with.

We ensure that we’re producing sportswear using sustainable fabrics made by people earning a fair wage for their skill and craft. We take this ethos into our packaging, opting for recyclable or fully compostable where possible.

3

We’re committed to giving back to our planet.

In partnership with Verdn, every purchase you make with us plants trees; real, living, breathing trees that help us to restore green spaces across the Earth we play the sports we love on.

We are very conscious that we’re by no means perfect, this is just the start of our journey. As a new start-up we are putting in the Hard Yards both on and off the field and we hope you will join us for every step towards building a better sports brand that’s better for the planet, and for you.
